What Happens If You Don’t Calibrate A Windshield?
Author: E. Silva (aka Mr. Awesome Expert)
This is a good question to be asking today : What happens if you don’t calibrate a wind - shield? Don’t tell me you haven’t ever had it burning on your mind before. I know you’ve wanted to know for some time now. Well, let’s talk answers, then, with your expert Efrain …..
So first of all, the thing that you ought to always keep in the back of your mind is this fact : NOT properly calibrating ( or re – calibrating, when it’s needed ) your wind – shield can mess with certain internal – external components of your car’s overall ADAS system, which is never good. Plus, you did pay a ton of money to have it all installed and set up, to begin with, right? Why not make the most of that initial investment?
After all, when you do not calibrate the wind – shield ( and it really needs you to do so ) , you will have less safety features working properly, such as any, some or all of these following ones :
- Your Rain sensing wipers
- Your Automatic head - lights
- Any Heads - ups displays installed
- The Shade Band
- Your Forward Collision Alert System
- Any Lane departure warnings
- Your Lane Keep Assistance ( LKA )
- The Adaptive Cruise Control ( ACC ) component
- Your ( CMBS ) Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Any Traffic Sign Recognition ( TSR ) features
- Your Pedestrian Detection ( PD ) capabilities
- Your ( BSM ) Blind - Spot Monitoring
And the worst part is this : You are missing out on so many features that can literally ( in most cases ) just take an hour or two to calibrate. That’s it. Not long of a wait, at all, is it? So it IS worth taking a bit of your precious Saturday morning to head out to an auto – glass pro to get this done. It’s infinitely valuable, and your time spent on the road can be spent more “at ease” and in comfort, with more peace of mind ( knowing that you are more secured than ever before and have greater safety features in play, on your car ) at the end of the day. Just think about that for one second.
Also, keep in mind this : ADAS calibrations can be necessary for the smallest / most minute types of reasons ( such as a minor accident, you cracking or dinging your wind – shield or anything else ) … which is why some can see it as “annoying” to have to re – calibrate every time this happens. But you can’t put a price, or a time limit, on safety. Period.
I hope this has helped you re – think calibration, at least slightly. If so, I would love to know your thoughts. Thank you, as always, for being a committed reader of great content.
